5 Liverpool transfers can still happen this month as Euros winner linked with move

Liverpool’s summer transfer business may have closed in England, but the Reds’ squad overhaul is not yet finished. Multiple potential exits remain on the table as Jürgen Klopp’s side look to recoup some of the £219m net spend that left them as the Premier League’s biggest spenders this summer. With deadlines still open in France (September 15), Portugal (September 15), and Turkey (August 30), Anfield could yet balance the books before the global window shuts. Mirror Football’s tracking of the global window indicates that several players remain available for transfer, with clubs in those leagues still able to finalise deals.

Who could still leave Anfield?

Lewis Koumas is the most advanced candidate for a move. The 20-year-old Wales international featured briefly against Newcastle but faces a logjam on the left wing after Bradley Barcola’s £123m arrival. A loan to a Championship side could provide the minutes he needs, with the Dutch Eredivisie closing at midnight tonight (as confirmed by Transfermarkt’s window tracker) and Belgium’s Pro League shuttering tomorrow. Koumas is not alone; Harvey Davies’ pathway to the first team has narrowed following Alisson’s retention and Freddie Woodman’s new contract, leaving the 22-year-old goalkeeper surplus to requirements.

Elsewhere, reports suggest Liverpool are open to selling young talent to ease financial pressure. Mirror Football’s tracking of the global window indicates that multiple players remain available for transfer, with clubs in France and Portugal still able to finalise deals. The Reds’ willingness to listen on several fringe performers—including midfielders and defenders—could yet yield further departures before the month is out. Among the names circulating are young defenders whose first-team opportunities have been limited, though no formal bids have been reported.

Why Liverpool’s net spend matters now

Liverpool’s £219m net expenditure dwarfed every other Premier League club this summer, a reflection of Klopp’s squad overhaul and the club’s aggressive approach to recruitment. Yet the financial outlay has left the Reds with limited wiggle room for January, when the next transfer window reopens. Selling now would soften the blow, particularly if incoming offers exceed expectations.

This imbalance contrasts sharply with rivals like Manchester City and Chelsea, who managed to offset big-money arrivals with astute departures. Liverpool’s failure to generate significant income from player sales has drawn scrutiny, especially as the club eyes a sustained title challenge. The need to recoup funds is pressing, and the remaining open windows offer a final chance to adjust the balance sheet. The club’s accounts for 2024-25 will reflect this summer’s spending, making early exits all the more valuable.

The tactical knock-on effect

Every departure reshapes the squad’s depth chart. Barcola’s arrival has already tightened competition on the left, while a goalkeeper sale would force Klopp to rely on a smaller pool between the posts. The ripple effects extend to youth development, as loans for fringe players like Koumas could accelerate their readiness for first-team football. Liverpool’s willingness to move players—even young ones—suggests a pragmatic approach to squad management, prioritising financial health over sentiment.

Yet the club’s high-spending summer also signals ambition. With multiple potential exits still viable, Liverpool could yet emerge from this transfer cycle with a more balanced squad, provided the right deals materialise. The next fortnight will determine whether Klopp’s side can turn their record net spend into a competitive advantage—or whether the club will face a January scramble to address gaps left by this summer’s overhaul. The coming days will reveal whether Anfield can turn financial outlay into sustainable strength.
