Alvarez open to Arsenal transfer – Sunday’s gossip

Arsenal’s striker hunt has entered a decisive phase after Julian Alvarez made it clear he would consider a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer. The Atletico Madrid forward, whose relationship with his club has deteriorated, now views Arsenal as a viable alternative to Barcelona, the club he has long preferred. Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have maintained regular contact with Alvarez throughout the window, and while the Argentine still favours Catalonia, the Gunners have emerged as a credible fallback option. Reports from Spanish outlet AS indicate that Alvarez’s stance has shifted from outright preference for Barcelona to a more pragmatic acceptance of Arsenal as a destination if the Catalans fail to meet his demands.

Arsenal’s striker hunt pivots to Alvarez as Barcola stalls

Arsenal’s pursuit of a premium forward has intensified after Liverpool’s £140 million bid for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola stalled. The Gunners, fresh from signing Ezri Konsa, remain intent on adding firepower before the window closes. Alvarez’s openness to Arsenal changes the calculus: he is no longer fixated solely on Barcelona and now sees the Premier League champions as a pragmatic next step. Arteta’s camp has maintained regular contact, underscoring the club’s willingness to move quickly if a deal materialises.

Liverpool’s Barcola pursuit has hit a significant snag, with PSG reportedly unwilling to meet the £140 million valuation. The Reds’ failure to progress on that front leaves them searching for alternatives, while Arsenal’s flexibility on Alvarez could force their hand. The Gunners’ willingness to act as a contingency plan for Alvarez contrasts with their earlier reluctance to overpay for strikers, signalling a strategic shift under Arteta. Sources close to Arsenal suggest that the club has been monitoring Alvarez’s situation at Atletico Madrid, where his playing time has become increasingly limited under manager Diego Simeone.

Spurs edge closer to Marmoush and Gakpo as deadline looms

Tottenham are confident they can finalise a deal for Omar Marmoush from Manchester City by the start of next week, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Egypt forward, 27, has been a primary target for Spurs, who are also monitoring Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo. Gakpo’s future under Andoni Iraola remains uncertain, and Spurs see him as a potential solution if their Marmoush talks progress. Romano’s report indicates that Spurs have made significant progress in negotiations, with Marmoush’s agent pushing for a move to north London.

Spurs’ midfield reshuffle continues with Pape Matar Sarr, 23, now available for transfer and set to join Galatasaray. The Senegalese international’s exit reflects a broader overhaul under Roberto De Zerbi, who has identified squad imbalance as a key issue. De Zerbi’s admission that “cash alone cannot fix Spurs’ losing mentality” after their heavy defeat at Brentford underscores the urgency of his rebuild. The manager’s comments, reported by RTE.ie, highlight the psychological toll of a difficult start to the season, with the club’s hierarchy acknowledging that financial investment alone cannot address tactical and mental deficiencies.

Villa’s Watkins eyes Saudi exit as Balde’s future hangs in balance

Ollie Watkins has told Aston Villa he wants to leave the club, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal leading the chase. The England striker’s desire to depart adds pressure on Villa’s front office to recoup value before the window shuts. Meanwhile, Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, 22, has decided to leave Camp Nou, with Manchester United among the clubs monitoring his situation. Balde’s future remains fluid: he could fight for minutes at Barça or force a move elsewhere. Reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest that Balde is prepared to take legal action if his contract situation is not resolved, adding another layer of complexity to his potential exit.

Real Madrid’s refusal to entertain Liverpool’s pursuit of Endrick, 20, further complicates the Reds’ summer. The Brazilian remains untouchable at the Bernabéu, while Gonzalo Garcia’s move to Fulham highlights Real’s willingness to cash in on young talent. Chelsea, meanwhile, have rejected Roma’s loan bid for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, 22, keeping the young forward at Stamford Bridge for now. The Blues’ decision reflects their broader strategy of prioritising youth development under new ownership, despite interest from Serie A clubs.

Elsewhere, Besiktas have submitted a bid to Newcastle for Joe Willock, 27, while Liverpool are undecided on Jayden Danns’ future, leaving his loan status unresolved. These peripheral moves frame the Premier League’s final frenzy, where every bid and counter-bid could reshape the season’s narrative. The interplay between these deals—particularly the potential domino effect of Marmoush’s move to Spurs—demonstrates how interconnected the transfer market has become in the window’s final stretch.

What comes next: deadlines, dominoes, and decisive days

With ten days left until the Premier League’s transfer window slams shut, the next 72 hours will determine which clubs secure their targets and which are left scrambling. Arsenal’s Alvarez pivot is a masterclass in contingency planning, while Spurs’ Marmoush push could finally give them the attacking punch they’ve lacked. Liverpool’s Barcola saga drags on, but their willingness to explore alternatives—including a potential move for Savinho or Omar Marmoush—shows their adaptability.

Villa’s Watkins dilemma and Chelsea’s Bynoe-Gittens rejection highlight the Premier League’s widening financial chasm. Clubs with deeper pockets are dictating terms, while others must accept compromise or risk falling behind. The coming days will reveal whether ambition or pragmatism prevails—and which managers will live with the consequences. For Arteta, securing Alvarez would not only address Arsenal’s striker shortage but also send a signal to rivals that the club is prepared to act decisively in the market. For De Zerbi, finalising Marmoush could be the difference between a season of promise and one of frustration.

One thing is certain: the window’s final stretch will be anything but quiet. The deals that materialise—or fail to—will set the tone for the season ahead, shaping title races, relegation battles, and the reputations of managers and clubs alike.
