Bournemouth 1-1 Everton: James Tarkowski’s late goal denies Bournemouth victory on Marco Rose’s home debut – Sky Sports

Marco Rose’s Premier League home debut for Bournemouth ended in frustration at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, as Everton clawed back a 1-1 draw in the 91st minute thanks to James Tarkowski’s header. The visitors’ captain rose to meet a late corner, powering the ball past Neto to deny Andoni Iraola’s side what would have been a deserved three points. The result leaves Bournemouth without a win in their last three league games, while Everton extend their winless run to four.

A point salvaged in the dying seconds

The game’s defining moment arrived in the 91st minute, when Tarkowski rose above Lloyd Kelly to head Everton level after Alex Scott’s first-half strike had given Bournemouth the lead. Scott, making his 15th Premier League appearance, controlled a loose ball inside the box before slotting past Jordan Pickford from close range. The visitors had shown little threat until the final minutes, but a swift counter from Dwight McNeil and a whipped cross from Ashley Young found Tarkowski unmarked at the far post. The centre-back’s finish was decisive, ensuring Everton left Dorset with a share of the spoils.

Bournemouth’s home struggles continue

For Rose, the result compounds a difficult start to his tenure at Bournemouth. Since taking charge in February, the German has overseen just one league win, a 2-1 victory over Brighton in April. The draw at home to Everton means Bournemouth have now failed to win any of their last three Premier League matches, a run that includes defeats to Manchester United and Aston Villa. Their attacking shape, built around rapid transitions, was repeatedly disrupted by Everton’s disciplined midfield, particularly James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucouré, who stifled the hosts’ rhythm.

Everton’s defensive resilience under scrutiny

While Tarkowski’s late heroics stole the headlines, Everton’s defensive frailties were again exposed. Bournemouth created 12 shots, with five on target, but Pickford’s relatively quiet afternoon was punctuated by a single error that allowed Scott to score. The Toffees’ backline, marshalled by Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, looked vulnerable to crosses, with Young’s delivery repeatedly testing their composure. The draw extends Everton’s winless streak to four games, leaving them 16th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone. Talks over a potential move for Fulham’s Tete have been reported this week, with Everton reportedly keen to bolster their right-back options amid defensive uncertainty.

For Rose, the challenge now is to steady a side that has conceded 12 goals in their last five league games. Bournemouth’s next fixture, a trip to Coventry City, offers an opportunity to rediscover their form before the run-in. Everton, meanwhile, will look to build on this draw as they seek to climb clear of danger, though their defensive record suggests further turbulence lies ahead.
