Chelsea latest: Sanchez loan exit agreed

Chelsea’s transfer deadline day has taken a decisive turn after the club agreed a loan exit for goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, ending a prolonged period of uncertainty over his future. The move to Italian side Como clears one path for the Blues, but the broader picture remains fluid as key sagas—most notably Enzo Fernández’s potential departure to Manchester City—hang in the balance ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Sánchez exits as Chelsea clear the decks

Chelsea have finalised a loan agreement with Como for Sánchez, a deal that frees up a first-team berth and provides the 27-year-old with regular football. The Spanish goalkeeper’s exit follows months of speculation over his future, with Chelsea having already secured a replacement in Portuguese international Diogo Costa. Sánchez’s departure is the latest in a series of exits designed to reshape the squad under new manager Enzo Maresca, who has overseen a clearout of underperforming or surplus players.

While Sánchez’s move is a formality, it underscores the broader shift at Stamford Bridge. The club’s willingness to sanction exits for players not in Maresca’s plans has been evident in recent weeks, with midfielder Jordan Henderson among those allowed to leave. Henderson’s exit, in particular, has drawn attention, given his status as a club legend, but the decision reflects the new regime’s priorities.

Fernández saga intensifies as City push for midfield upgrade

The most pressing drama remains the future of Enzo Fernández, with Manchester City now actively pursuing the Argentine midfielder. City have opened formal talks with Chelsea over a deal reported to exceed £120 million, a figure that would make Fernández one of the most expensive midfielders in Premier League history. The player’s desire to leave Stamford Bridge has been well-documented, and his relationship with Manchester City’s head coach, Enzo Maresca—who managed him during their time together at Benfica—adds weight to the speculation.

Chelsea, however, are not willing to sell without a suitable replacement. Reports suggest they are targeting Monaco’s Lamine Camara, Roma’s Manu Kone, and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as potential replacements. The club’s caution reflects the lessons of past sales, where financial gains were not always matched by on-field impact. For City, securing Fernández would represent a significant coup, strengthening their midfield as they bid to reclaim the Premier League title.

This transfer saga is part of a wider reshuffle at Chelsea, with the club also set to lose winger Mykhailo Mudryk to Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues have accepted Spurs’ offer for the Ukrainian international, a move that further reduces their attacking options. Defender Tosin Adarabioyo is also poised to join Tottenham, while Chelsea have accepted a bid from Como for Sánchez, as confirmed by BBC Sport.

Deadline day chaos: who else could move?

The final hours of the window are typically defined by chaos, and this year is no exception. Arsenal’s pursuit of Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez remains unresolved, with the Gunners having sold Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli to free up funds. Their failure to agree a deal with Atlético has seen them explore alternatives, including Lyon’s Malick Fofana, though time is running out. Meanwhile, Manchester United continue to search for a left-back, with links to Newcastle’s Lewis Hall and Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde still in play.

Liverpool, meanwhile, appear to have concluded their business after signing Bradley Barcola and rejecting Manchester City’s approach for Cody Gakpo. City, however, have moved quickly to bolster their own squad, agreeing a £60 million deal with Everton for Iliman Ndiaye—a move that could impact Everton’s pursuit of Richarlison. Tottenham, too, remain active, with their double swoop for Mudryk and Adarabioyo signalling a clear intent to strengthen under Ange Postecoglou.

The window’s unpredictability extends beyond the Premier League. Borussia Dortmund are reported to have reached a verbal agreement with Arsenal for Ethan Nwaneri, a loan deal that would see the teenager head to Germany on a season-long basis. Such moves highlight the frenetic nature of deadline day, where even the most unexpected transfers can materialise in the final hours.

For Chelsea, the Sánchez exit is a small but necessary step in a broader restructuring. The club’s ability to balance exits with targeted arrivals will determine whether Maresca can deliver on his promise of a resurgence. With Fernández’s future still hanging in the balance, and other deals yet to be finalised, Stamford Bridge’s deadline day is far from over. What is clear, however, is that the Blues are no longer content to stand still—and that could be the most significant development of all.
