Chelsea stars for sale: The players who could leave – and what they’ll cost

Chelsea’s summer spending spree has left them with a bloated squad and a clear need to sell. According to Sky Sports, the Blues are now under pressure to recoup funds by offloading several first-team players before the window slams shut. With over 40 names in their books—confirmed by the club website—and a squad structure that manager Xabi Alonso wants to streamline, the coming weeks will see a flurry of exits, some inevitable, others still in flux.

Defenders in the departure mix

Alonso’s desire to reduce his centre-back options—currently nine according to Sky Sports—has already triggered exits, with Trevoh Chalobah the first to leave for Como in a deal worth up to £30.8m. Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi are next in line, with Napoli circling Badiashile for around £20m on an initial loan with an option to buy. Chelsea, however, are holding firm on a £30m valuation for the French defender, who still has four years left on his contract. Disasi, who spent last season on loan at West Ham, is being chased by clubs willing to meet Chelsea’s £25m asking price. Meanwhile, Mamadou Sarr—signed from Strasbourg last summer—is being lined up for a loan exit to free up minutes.

At full-back, Malo Gusto remains untouchable despite persistent speculation. Chelsea have no intention of selling the France international and have set a £75m price tag on the player, a figure that has deterred potential suitors so far. Tosin, the former Fulham defender, has also drawn interest, though Chelsea’s valuation for him remains undisclosed.

Strikers facing uncertain futures

The arrival of Danny Welbeck has added to Chelsea’s striker glut, leaving Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap, and Marc Guiu in the shop window. Jackson, who endured a difficult first season in England, is the most likely to depart, with clubs monitoring his progress closely. Delap and Guiu, both young and unproven in the Premier League, could follow if the right offers arrive. Chelsea’s need to balance the books means no position is safe, and the striking department is no exception.

Midfielders and the bigger picture

While the defence and attack take centre stage, Chelsea’s midfield depth could also see movement. Enzo Fernández remains a marquee asset, but his long-term future at Stamford Bridge is now under scrutiny. With Alonso reshaping the squad, even high-profile names like Fernández could be considered for sale if the right bid materialises. The Blues’ record £314m haul from last summer’s sales—cited by Sky Sports—gives them leverage, but they’ll need to act decisively to avoid a repeat of their chaotic 2023 window.

Chelsea’s transfer activity this summer has been relentless, but their squad still carries the weight of their spending. Alonso’s clear-out is a necessary step, and the players on the move will shape the club’s identity for the season ahead. Whether they can balance ambition with financial prudence remains to be seen—but the clock is ticking.
