Enoch makes his return at Lingfield Park

Thursday’s card across four tracks delivers a carefully curated mix of debuts, returning favourites and horses chasing streaks, with Sky Sports Racing delivering live coverage from 2.22pm. Lingfield Park’s headline act is the return of Enoch, the Frankel colt whose sole outing so far—a Newmarket debut victory over subsequent winners—has kept the Gosden stable in the spotlight. The 3.22 Lingfield novice stakes marks his first appearance since that September triumph, where he defeated several horses who have since gone on to further successes, including at Group level. That form alone has elevated expectations, but the step up to this class will test whether his pedigree and early promise translate into tangible results under William Buick’s guidance.

Enoch’s long-awaited return under Buick’s guidance

John and Thady Gosden’s son of Frankel resumes at Lingfield in the Download The At The Races App Novice Stakes (3.22), where William Buick takes the ride after Enoch’s Newmarket win last September. That solitary start saw the colt beat several horses who have since won at Listed level or better, including the subsequent Group-placed performer at Newbury in May. Black Chiffon, another debut scorer at Salisbury before a fourth at Kempton, lines up with Rob Horny in the irons and carries an official rating of 85. Her Salisbury victory came over a mile and a half on good-to-firm ground, conditions that could suit her again if Lingfield’s strip holds firm. Colonnade, twice placed in his two starts—including a runner-up effort at Doncaster on his latest outing—could vie for the frame if the step up in class doesn’t trouble him, particularly if the ground remains on the quicker side.

Ffos Las and Newton Abbot host contrasting challenges

At Ffos Las (4.37), the 86-rated Blue Hercules steps out in the BNI Elli Maiden Stakes against five rivals after running creditably at Ascot without breaking his duck in six attempts. Lewis Edmunds takes the mount as connections target a first win, and his latest effort at Ascot saw him finish fifth in a field of eight, just over four lengths behind the winner. That race came on soft ground, but his trainer William Muir has since indicated a preference for firmer conditions, which could suit his stamina-oriented profile. Neswick, fourth on her comeback at Lingfield earlier this month, may yet improve with further runs, while Phantom Recon and Winday carry claims for George Scott and Emmet Mullins respectively—both saddles with recent form at this level.

Over at Newton Abbot (6.12), Gore Point bids for a fifth consecutive victory in the MD Elite Cleaning Handicap Chase, having won three times over this exact course and distance during his current streak. The six-year-old’s last four wins have all come at Newton Abbot, including a dominant display in May over three miles and one furlong, where he crossed the line eight lengths clear. Paul Nicholls’ Centara, the 2025 winner here, drops in class but arrives off three poor runs this year, including a tailed-off effort at Cheltenham in April. The handicap mark adjustment means Centara now carries 10lb less than Gore Point, but his recent form suggests he’ll need a career revival to trouble the front-runner.

Southwell’s undercard completes the quartet

The action at Southwell is covered in the broadcast wrap-up, rounding out a card that balances maiden debuts with seasoned chasers. Lingfield’s novice ranks and Ffos Las’ maiden ranks both offer scope for horses to advance their claims, while Newton Abbot’s handicap chase tests both fitness and class. The day’s results could ripple through ratings and handicaps, with several runners poised to move up or consolidate their positions—Blue Hercules and Neswick among those with scope to rise if they deliver.

Enoch’s return is the clear focal point. A repeat of his Newmarket form would confirm the Gosden yard’s eye for a promising type, while a defeat would invite questions about the step up in class. Black Chiffon’s presence adds a contrasting narrative—another debutant with a mark to chase—while Colonnade’s form suggests he can trouble the principals if the ground stays good. The Gosden team’s decision to bring Enoch back at this level signals confidence, but confidence alone doesn’t win races. Buick’s track record with debut winners—including three at this course in the last two seasons—adds another layer of intrigue.

Thursday’s card is a reminder that progress in racing is measured in small increments. A winner here, a placed effort there, and suddenly a horse’s profile shifts. For Enoch, the challenge is to translate promise into performance; for the rest, the task is to keep the momentum going. Sky Sports Racing’s coverage will track every stride, every jump, and every late run that could define the next chapter for these horses—whether it’s a debutant announcing a future star or a seasoned chaser rediscovering winning ways.
