Gabriel Jesus’ agent addresses Arsenal transfer exit after being spotted at rival club

Gabriel Jesus’ future at Arsenal is in flux after the club made him available for transfer this summer, and his agent’s presence at Napoli’s training ground has intensified speculation over a potential move. The striker, who has one year left on his contract, has fallen down the pecking order following injuries and limited first-team opportunities. Arsenal have moved to reshape their attack, with Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz identified as the first-choice strikers, while the club pursues Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez after Vinicius Junior opted to stay at Real Madrid.

What happened and why it matters now

Jesus’ agent, Giovanni Branchini, was spotted at Napoli’s training facility in Castel di Sangro on Friday, fuelling reports of ongoing negotiations between the two clubs. Branchini, however, dismissed suggestions that Jesus was the subject of those talks, stating he was visiting Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri to discuss another of his clients. Branchini told Videoinformazioni.com: “Allegri and I have been in touch, I came here today to come and visit him. He’s working hard and he’s happy with everything.” When pressed on Jesus, Branchini added: “I haven’t spoken to Allegri about him.”

Arsenal’s willingness to sell Jesus stems from his reduced role under Mikel Arteta. The Brazilian made just 14 Premier League appearances last season, and the club would prefer to secure a fee—reportedly around €20million (£17m)—rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer when his contract expires. Napoli, meanwhile, are open to discussions but are pushing for a lower valuation. The Italian side’s interest comes as they prepare for life without Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Lucca, both of whom are also on the move.

This transfer saga unfolds amid a broader reshaping of Arsenal’s squad. The club has already agreed to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, while Arteta’s focus now appears to be on adding another forward. The Gunners’ pursuit of Alvarez reflects their desire to bolster competition for minutes, especially with Jesus’ future uncertain. The situation is fluid, but Napoli’s involvement suggests a viable exit route could materialise before the window closes.

What comes next for Jesus and Arsenal

Arsenal’s strategy hinges on extracting value from Jesus’ sale, given his contract status. The club’s hierarchy has made it clear they favour a permanent deal over a free departure, and Napoli’s interest provides a potential pathway. However, the Italian side’s valuation remains a sticking point, with Arsenal reportedly unwilling to budge from their €20million asking price. Napoli, meanwhile, are navigating their own attacking overhaul, with Rasmus Hojlund set to lead their line next season after his permanent move from Manchester United.

The broader transfer landscape adds further complexity. Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola could divert Arsenal’s attention elsewhere, while Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Shakhtar Donetsk’s Kaua Elias. These competing priorities mean Arteta’s squad-building plans may need to adapt quickly. If Napoli’s offer falls short, Arsenal could explore other options, but time is running out in a window where clubs are increasingly reluctant to meet inflated valuations.

For Jesus, a move to Napoli would represent a fresh start in Serie A, where his physical profile could thrive under Allegri’s system. The Brazilian has previously excelled in Italy during his time at Palmeiras, and a return to the league would offer him regular football. Yet the uncertainty over his future—amid contract talks that have yet to begin—leaves his immediate prospects unclear. Branchini’s insistence that no progress has been made suggests negotiations remain at an early stage, despite the optics of his visit.

Arsenal’s transfer priorities in context

Arteta’s summer has been defined by movement, with Guimaraes arriving to bolster midfield depth. The Gunners’ next steps will likely depend on whether they can finalise a deal for Alvarez or identify an alternative target. The club’s willingness to offload Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli underscores their intent to streamline the squad, but the financial realities of the market may force compromises. Napoli’s involvement in Jesus’ situation highlights the tactical and financial calculations underpinning this transfer window.

Off the pitch, the FA’s recent decision to ban solid pitch perimeter walls in non-league football serves as a stark reminder of the broader responsibilities clubs bear beyond transfers. The changes follow the tragic death of former Arsenal youth player Billy Vigar, who suffered a fatal head injury after colliding with a concrete wall last September. The FA’s ruling, which mandates the removal or protection of such barriers, underscores the ongoing efforts to improve safety standards across the game. While unrelated to Jesus’ transfer, the incident serves as a sobering backdrop to the high-stakes decisions being made in boardrooms this summer.

As the window progresses, Arsenal’s ability to balance ambition with pragmatism will be tested. Jesus’ future remains unresolved, but the club’s willingness to entertain offers suggests a resolution is likely before the deadline. Whether that comes in the form of a Napoli deal or an alternative remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the coming days will shape not just Jesus’ career, but Arsenal’s trajectory for the season ahead.
