Liverpool news: Bradley Barcola exiled by PSG as personal terms ‘agreed’

Liverpool’s summer transfer business has taken a decisive turn with the news that Bradley Barcola’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is now in flux. The French winger, a long-standing target for the Reds, has been omitted from PSG’s squad for two consecutive matches as his exit edges closer. With the transfer window closing in seven days, Jürgen Klopp’s side are under pressure to finalise deals before the deadline.

Barcola’s PSG exit gathers pace

Barcola has been left out of Luis Enrique’s matchday squads for PSG’s recent games, including their French Super Cup defeat to Lens and their Ligue 1 opener at Rennes. According to RMC Sport, the 21-year-old and teammate Ibrahim Mbaye will remain on the sidelines until their situations are resolved. The development follows months of speculation linking Barcola with a move to Anfield, where Liverpool have reportedly tabled offers in the region of £111m to £128m—well below PSG’s valuation of over £140m. The French press has suggested that personal terms between Barcola and Liverpool are now agreed, a crucial step in securing his signature before the window slams shut.

Liverpool’s pursuit has intensified as the club seeks to bolster their attacking options. The Reds have already completed the loan signings of Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo, while Jeremy Jaquet joined permanently, but Barcola represents a marquee addition. His exclusion from PSG’s squads indicates that the club is prepared to let him go, though the fee remains a sticking point. With the window closing on 1 September, Liverpool must move quickly to finalise terms and submit a compliant bid.

Minteh deal edges closer as Reds hunt final targets

Liverpool’s other primary target, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, is also nearing a move to Anfield. The Gambian winger has reportedly agreed personal terms with the club after Liverpool submitted two bids for his services. Minteh’s potential arrival would provide competition for established forwards, though his integration will depend on whether Barcola’s deal is completed first. The Reds’ summer recruitment has been cautious, with only three permanent additions so far, leaving them in need of further reinforcements before the deadline.

The urgency is heightened by the club’s recent struggles in attack. Liverpool’s late penalty against Newcastle salvaged a draw, but their inability to consistently break down defensive opponents has raised questions over their attacking depth. Szoboszlai’s contribution was pivotal, yet the Reds’ reliance on individual moments of quality underscores the need for squad reinforcement.

Title race and squad overhaul collide

Liverpool’s transfer activity has been overshadowed by their inconsistent start to the season. While the Reds remain in contention domestically, their attacking output has lagged behind expectations. The pursuit of Barcola and Minteh reflects a broader strategy to address these shortcomings, but the window is closing fast. The club’s valuation disputes with PSG risk delaying a deal, while Minteh’s potential arrival could provide a Plan B if Barcola’s move collapses.

Beyond the transfer window, Liverpool’s long-term outlook hinges on resolving their attacking issues. The Reds’ recent performances have drawn criticism, with pundits questioning the impact of high-profile signings. Gary Neville has singled out Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak as Liverpool’s biggest disappointments, highlighting the pressure on the club to deliver results. With Barcola’s future now hanging in the balance, Liverpool face a critical week in shaping their squad for the challenges ahead.

As the transfer window ticks down, Klopp’s options are narrowing. Barcola’s PSG exile and Minteh’s advancing deal suggest that Liverpool are on the cusp of major changes—but time is running out. Whether the Reds can secure their targets before the deadline will define their summer more than any of their early-season performances.
