Man Utd will reject any bid for Fernandes

Manchester United have drawn a line under Bruno Fernandes’ future, making clear the Portugal captain will not be sold this summer despite Turkish champions Galatasaray preparing a bid.

United’s stance is uncompromising

Old Trafford sources confirmed to BBC Sport that any approach for Fernandes will be rejected outright, with the club treating the 31-year-old as non-transferable. Galatasaray had prepared a €50m (£42.7m) package, but United’s message is unambiguous: Fernandes is not for sale at any price. The club’s position is reinforced by the fact that Fernandes’ £57m release clause has already expired, leaving no contractual obligation to entertain bids.

Fernandes’ contract runs for one more year with a club option for an additional season, and the player himself has indicated a preference to remain at Old Trafford. Senior figures at the club have also pointed to the enthusiastic reception Fernandes received from supporters during last week’s pre-season match in Dublin as evidence that selling him would provoke a fierce backlash.

Galatasaray’s pursuit is the latest twist

Galatasaray’s interest follows earlier speculation involving Juventus and AC Milan, both of which United dismissed as premature. The Turkish club’s determination to sign a marquee player this summer appears undeterred, yet United’s refusal to engage suggests Fernandes’ value is seen as strategic rather than negotiable. The club’s stance contrasts with last summer’s handling of Saudi Pro-League interest from Al-Hilal, when Fernandes admitted feeling “hurt” by the club’s initial willingness to let him decide his own future.

With the transfer window nearing its final weeks, United’s intransigence leaves Galatasaray with little room for manoeuvre unless United’s position softens unexpectedly.

Squad planning hinges on Fernandes’ presence

Fernandes’ retention is pivotal to Michael Carrick’s midfield plans, particularly after Casemiro’s departure. The club has already moved to strengthen the spine by signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50m and activating Youri Tielemans’ £35m release clause, but Fernandes remains the fulcrum around which United’s creative play revolves. His record 21 Premier League assists last season underscore his importance, and he is currently the favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award for 2025-26.

United’s transfer activity this summer reflects a pragmatic approach: prioritising stability in key positions while avoiding overpaying for replacements. The club’s focus on midfield and left-back reinforcements, as reported by Mirror Football, aligns with Carrick’s need to balance ambition with financial prudence.

What comes next

The coming days will test United’s resolve. Galatasaray’s potential bid, expected later this week, will either be met with immediate rejection or prompt a fresh round of negotiations that United have so far refused to entertain. Fernandes’ contract situation also remains unresolved, with no extension agreed despite his preference to stay. The club’s next moves—whether in the transfer market or in contract talks—will determine whether Fernandes remains a United player beyond next summer.

For now, United’s message is clear: Fernandes is the captain, the playmaker, and the future. Any bid that fails to acknowledge that reality will be swiftly dismissed.
