PSG’s Bradley Barcola ‘potentially marquee signing’ for Liverpool – Sky Sports

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has intensified this week, with reports suggesting the France international has agreed personal terms with Anfield. But the Reds face a significant obstacle: Paris Saint-Germain’s valuation of £145 million for the 23-year-old winger, a figure that has stalled preliminary talks between the two clubs.

Why Barcola has become Liverpool’s top target

Barcola’s name has been linked with Liverpool recently, but the latest reports indicate the Reds have moved him to the top of their summer agenda. According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have held direct discussions with PSG over a potential deal, while Barcola’s representatives have also been engaged. The appeal is clear: a player who fits the profile of a high-energy winger, capable of thriving in Andoni Iraola’s system, which prioritises pace and pressing from wide positions.

Barcola’s contract situation at PSG further complicates matters. With two years remaining on his deal and no new offer on the table, his frustration over limited game time has grown. The chance to join a Premier League side with Champions League ambitions—especially one that has lost Mohamed Salah—has clearly resonated with the France international. Yet the financial hurdle remains substantial, with PSG’s valuation far exceeding what Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay.

PSG’s valuation blocks progress

The stumbling block is the £145 million price tag attached to Barcola by PSG, a figure that has made a swift resolution unlikely. Sky Sports notes that the gap in valuation is “significant,” and with Barcola’s contract expiring in 2028, PSG have little incentive to accept a lower offer. The club’s stance suggests they view the France international as a marquee asset, one they are unwilling to part with unless the right price is met.

This isn’t the first time Liverpool have faced such a scenario. The Reds have previously navigated complex negotiations for high-profile wingers, though the specifics of those deals remain unreferenced in this window. Barcola’s profile—combined with PSG’s intransigence—makes this a uniquely challenging pursuit. The club’s interest in other options, such as 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye, indicates they are prepared for a Plan B, but Barcola remains their preferred solution.

What comes next for Liverpool’s summer

Liverpool’s transfer strategy this window has centred on rebuilding their attacking options, with a focus on securing multiple wide threats. Barcola would slot into that plan seamlessly, but the club’s hierarchy must decide whether to bridge the financial gap or pivot to alternative targets. The Mirror’s transfer blog suggests Liverpool are also monitoring Djed Spence, though no formal approach has been reported.

If Barcola’s deal collapses, Liverpool’s next move could involve a younger prospect like Mbaye, who has been linked with a move to Anfield independently of any Barcola negotiations. The teenager’s potential development under Iraola’s wing could provide a long-term solution, but for now, Barcola remains the priority. The Reds’ ability to navigate this impasse will define their summer transfer business.

Liverpool’s summer transfer window has taken a decisive turn this week, with Bradley Barcola emerging as their headline target. The France international’s willingness to join Anfield contrasts sharply with PSG’s stubborn valuation, leaving the Reds at a crossroads. Whether they can bridge the £145 million divide—or whether they’ll be forced to recalibrate their plans—will shape their season before a ball has even been kicked.
