Soccer: Manor Solomon’s Transfer to West Ham Finalized – Ynetnews

West Ham United have completed the signing of Manor Solomon from Shakhtar Donetsk, ending weeks of speculation over the winger’s future. The move, confirmed by Ynetnews, brings a player with Champions League experience and direct speed to David Moyes’ squad as the Hammers push for European football.

Why Solomon fits at West Ham now

Solomon arrives at a club reshaping its squad around technical, progressive football. His profile—quick feet, one-on-one ability, and a history of delivering in continental competition—aligns with West Ham’s need for creativity in wide areas. The transfer also arrives as the club navigates a changing ownership landscape. A consortium led by Daniel Harris recently agreed a deal for a minority stake in West Ham, a shift that could influence future recruitment strategy reported here.

For Moyes, Solomon offers an alternative to overlapping profiles like Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma. His Champions League pedigree, including a goal against Inter Milan in the 2020-21 group stage, provides a tangible upgrade in attacking firepower. The club’s recent medical for defender Dan Potts with Club Brugge outlined here shows West Ham are still adding depth, but Solomon’s arrival signals a clear intent to strengthen the first team.

What comes next for both sides

For West Ham, the focus shifts to integrating Solomon into a squad chasing a top-six finish. The winger will compete for minutes in a congested attack, with Bowen, Benrahma, and new signing Michail Antonio all vying for starts. Moyes may rotate Solomon early to preserve his match fitness, especially given the congested fixture schedule in January.

Solomon’s former club, Shakhtar Donetsk, will feel the financial impact of his departure, though the fee remains undisclosed. The Ukrainian giants have long relied on selling stars to balance budgets, and Solomon’s exit fits that pattern. For West Ham, the challenge will be ensuring the investment translates into consistent contributions, particularly in tight games where creativity is at a premium.

Tactical fit and potential impact

Solomon’s best attributes—dribbling, crossing, and late runs into the box—complement West Ham’s direct style under Moyes. He can play on either flank, though his stronger foot is his right, which may see him deployed on the left to cut inside. His arrival could allow Moyes to shift to a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, with Solomon providing width and Bowen or Benrahma occupying half-spaces.

The winger’s Champions League experience also adds a layer of tactical flexibility. In tight European ties, his ability to unlock low blocks with quick feet could prove decisive. However, his defensive work rate remains a question mark, and Moyes may need to balance his inclusion with more industrious options.

West Ham’s transfer business now shifts to January, where the focus will likely remain on shoring up the spine—particularly in midfield and defence. The Solomon deal, while significant, is part of a broader strategy that includes ownership changes and squad evolution. As the club navigates these transitions, Solomon’s adaptation will be watched closely, both for his individual output and how he elevates the team’s attacking output.
