Spurs and Everton in advanced talks over Ndiaye and Richarlison

Tottenham and Everton are in advanced talks over two strikers, with Spurs targeting Senegalese winger Iliman Ndiaye in a separate deal to Everton’s push to re-sign Richarlison. The moves would reshape both clubs’ attacking options just days before the Premier League transfer deadline, with Tottenham having spent over £300 million this summer—per BBC Sport—and Everton under pressure from fan protests over their own transfer strategy.

Spurs’ striker crisis fuels Ndiaye pursuit

Tottenham’s need for a new striker has intensified after Richarlison, Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr asked to leave. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the trio’s requests on Saturday, stating they must bring financial solutions to the club to facilitate exits. With Richarlison the club’s top scorer last season with 11 goals, his departure would leave a significant void in attack. Tottenham have already moved to replace him, signing Omar Marmoush on loan from Manchester City, who started in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

Ndiaye has rejected multiple contract offers from Everton and remains a target for Spurs, who are also monitoring Pedro Neto. The Toffees’ willingness to sell him hinges on a fee acceptable to both parties, while Everton simultaneously pursue Richarlison as a potential replacement for their own attacking options. The overlapping interests highlight the fluidity of this transfer window, where clubs are recalibrating their squads amid shifting priorities.

Everton’s Richarlison return hinges on valuation

Everton’s pursuit of Richarlison reflects their need to bolster a squad that has seen key players linked with moves away. The Brazilian’s return would reunite him with a club where he scored 13 goals in his final season before joining Tottenham in 2022. Everton’s attempt to sell Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest was abandoned after fan backlash—per BBC Sport—underscoring the delicate balance between sporting decisions and supporter sentiment.

De Zerbi’s admission that Richarlison has repeatedly expressed his desire to leave complicates matters, but Everton’s willingness to make an attractive offer could sway the situation. The Toffees’ financial constraints mean any deal must be structured carefully, yet the potential return of a player familiar with the club’s style may justify the investment. For Spurs, losing Richarlison would compound their early-season struggles, where they sit bottom of the Premier League after failing to score in their first two matches.

Deadline-day chessboard: Gakpo, Neto and the wider market

The transfer window’s final days are shaping up as a high-stakes game of chess. Manchester City have opened talks with Liverpool for Cody Gakpo, with Tottenham also monitoring the Dutch forward. Liverpool, meanwhile, are nearing a £106 million deal for Bradley Barcola from PSG, while Victor Munoz arrived from Osasuna earlier in the summer. Tottenham’s record-breaking summer, which included breaking their transfer record twice in one week, has yet to translate into on-field success, as evidenced by their Carabao Cup exit to Newcastle and a disjointed start to the league campaign.

Spurs’ 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic, where Savio scored and assisted on his debut, offered a rare bright spot. Yet their league form remains alarming, with a goalless draw against Newcastle following a heavy defeat to Brentford. The urgency to address their attacking deficiencies has never been clearer, with Ndiaye emerging as a pragmatic solution. Everton, too, face their own pressures, balancing squad rebuilding with supporter unrest—a dynamic that could influence their willingness to meet Spurs’ valuation for Ndiaye.

As the deadline approaches, the fates of Ndiaye and Richarlison hang in the balance. Tottenham’s need for a proven Premier League striker contrasts with Everton’s desire to retain a player who could reinvigorate their attack. The coming days will determine whether these talks culminate in transfers, or if the clubs will pivot to alternative options. One thing is certain: the final hours of the window will be decisive for both sides.
