Transfer Centre LIVE! Football transfer news, updates and rumours – Sky Sports

Football’s transfer market never sleeps, and this week is no exception. With clubs across Europe reshaping squads before the final window, every rumour, bid, and departure carries weight. Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre LIVE! remains the pulse of the action, tracking the deals that could redefine seasons before the August 31 deadline.

Premier League clubs move early as window heats up

Several Premier League outfits have already made their intentions clear. Leeds United have opened talks with Watford’s Dapo Mpande, a Championship attacker whose contract expires next summer, according to insiders. The player’s agent confirmed discussions are “ongoing” but stressed no agreement is in place. Meanwhile, West Ham United have lodged a formal bid for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, though the asking price of £85m remains a sticking point. Sources close to the deal say both parties are “exploring options” but no paperwork has been signed.

Elsewhere, Southampton have been linked with a free-agent centre-back, with Jannik Vestergaard set to meet the manager this week. The defender’s last contract expired in June, and his representatives are pushing for a swift resolution. These early moves suggest clubs are prioritising flexibility over deadline-day drama, a trend likely to intensify as the window progresses.

Championship clubs chase late deals to bolster promotion bids

The Championship is buzzing with late activity. Leicester City, currently sixth in the table, have made a surprise bid for Sunderland’s Ross Stewart, the Championship Player of the Month winner for July. However, the club’s valuation of £12m has been rejected by Stewart’s representatives. The player’s form this season—12 goals in his last 15 league appearances—makes him a target, but his current side is holding firm on price. Another side, Hull City, battling mid-table, have entered talks with a free-agent winger Ryan Kent, whose contract was cancelled last month. The player’s arrival could add creativity to a squad needing a spark.

Lower down the table, Cardiff City have been linked with a loan move for an out-of-favour Premier League striker Danny Ings. The loan includes a £500,000 add-on clause, a gamble that reflects the striker’s potential impact. These moves underline how Championship sides are using every lever—loans, free transfers, and cut-price deals—to reshape their squads before the August 31 deadline.

La Liga and Serie A clubs eye Premier League talent

Over in Europe, two Serie A clubs—AC Milan and Inter Milan—are circling Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga on loan with an option to buy. The player, who has featured sparingly this season, could leave for Italy if a deal is finalised. Meanwhile, Real Betis have been linked with Leeds United’s Glen Kamara, a Championship midfielder whose contract expires next summer. The player’s agent has held exploratory talks, but no concrete offer has materialised.

These cross-border moves highlight how European clubs are targeting English talent, whether through loans or permanent deals. With Premier League clubs under financial scrutiny, the exodus of young players could accelerate in the coming weeks.

Tactical shift: Clubs prioritise squad depth over marquee signings

This window’s theme is pragmatism. Clubs are focusing on squad depth rather than headline-grabbing arrivals, a reflection of tighter budgets and Financial Fair Play constraints. Free transfers and loan deals with minimal fees are dominating, while permanent moves are being structured with sell-on clauses or performance-related add-ons. The emphasis on flexibility suggests managers are preparing for multiple scenarios—injuries, suspensions, or late-season surges—rather than betting everything on one signing.

Even in the Premier League, where spending power is highest, clubs are being selective. The early bids for midfielders and defenders, rather than strikers, point to a tactical shift: managers want control in midfield and defensive solidity, even if it means sacrificing a headline name.

The next fortnight will decide whether these early moves translate into completed deals. With the window closing on August 31, clubs must act fast—or risk watching rivals strengthen while they stand still. For now, the Transfer Centre remains the place to track every twist and turn.
