Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal given Alvarez green light, Liverpool turned down by Real Madrid forward, Man Utd’s new left back target

Arsenal’s summer pursuit of a marquee attacker has taken a decisive turn after reports emerged that Julian Álvarez would consider a move to the Emirates if his preferred destination Barcelona ultimately refuse to sanction his transfer. The Argentina forward has been in direct contact with Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta, according to Spanish media, and now views the Gunners as a viable alternative if Atletico Madrid block a switch to La Liga. Arsenal’s interest underscores their determination to add firepower before the window closes, but their options are narrowing after Juventus reportedly closed the door on Kenan Yildiz.

Liverpool’s winger hunt stalls as Real Madrid say no to Endrick

Liverpool’s attempts to land a new winger have hit a familiar obstacle: Real Madrid will not entertain any approach for Endrick, either on a permanent or loan basis. The Reds’ frustration is compounded by Brighton’s refusal to lower their valuation for Yankuba Minteh, with the Seagulls rejecting a £60m bid. That leaves Bradley Barcola as Jürgen Klopp’s preferred target, yet PSG’s £145m asking price remains prohibitive. The club’s recruitment team now faces a stark choice: overpay, pivot to a cheaper option, or risk entering the season with an unbalanced attack.

Manchester United eye left-back upgrade amid defensive scrutiny

Manchester United remain intent on addressing defensive frailties exposed during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at newly promoted Hull. A deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba is close, but Michael Carrick’s side still need defensive cover, particularly at left-back. Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde has been sounded out, though the Spain international’s reluctance to leave this summer complicates matters. United’s urgency reflects the need to shore up a backline that struggled against a Hull side playing with freedom and intensity.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Álvarez is the clearest sign yet that Arteta is not satisfied with his current attacking options. The Gunners set the tone on the pitch with a win over Coventry City and have moved decisively off it, wrapping up Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. Yet their search for a headline-grabbing forward continues, with Álvarez now a realistic fallback if Barcelona’s financial constraints or Atletico’s resistance prove insurmountable. The club’s willingness to engage directly with the player’s representatives signals both ambition and flexibility, traits that have defined their transfer business under Arteta.

Liverpool’s inability to progress in the winger market mirrors their broader recruitment challenges. Endrick’s unavailability is a blow, but the Reds’ failure to pry Barcola away from PSG—despite a reported £145m valuation—exposes the limits of their financial leverage. Brighton’s intransigence over Minteh further highlights how inflated expectations can derail even the most targeted pursuit. With the window nearing its climax, Klopp may need to recalibrate his strategy or risk entering the season with an unsettled attack.

Manchester United’s defensive concerns are no longer theoretical. Hull’s opening-day dismantling exposed vulnerabilities that cannot be ignored, and Carrick’s recruitment team is scrambling to respond. Baleba’s imminent arrival will bolster midfield creativity, but the left-back issue persists. Balde’s reluctance to leave Barcelona suggests United may need to look elsewhere, potentially revisiting options like Destiny Udogie or even a surprise move for a domestic talent. The club’s window is narrowing, and the pressure to deliver is mounting.

With the final days of the transfer window approaching, the Premier League’s heavyweights are running out of time to address their most pressing needs. Arsenal’s Álvarez pursuit offers a clear path forward, but only if Barcelona blink first. Liverpool’s winger hunt remains deadlocked, forcing Klopp to confront an uncomfortable truth: his attack may not be as sharp as he hopes. United, meanwhile, must decide whether to double down on defensive reinforcements or accept that their early-season struggles will carry over into the transfer market’s final hours.
