Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal medical, Liverpool signing jets in, Man Utd prepare £60m bid

With less than three weeks until the Premier League curtain-raiser, the transfer window is reaching its decisive phase. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all locked in multi-pronged pursuit of midfielders and full-backs, while the futures of Bruno Guimarães, Vinícius Júnior and Bradley Barcola remain unresolved. The next 12 days will shape the title race, the top-four scrap and the depth of squads across the top flight.

Arsenal’s midfield pivot hinges on Guimarães and Vinícius

The Gunners are within touching distance of a double swoop that would transform their midfield and attack. Reports indicate Arsenal are leading the race for Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, with a medical expected to be completed this week. The Brazilian’s arrival would give Mikel Arteta a third central-midfield option alongside Declan Rice and Jorginho, adding steel and progressive passing to the engine room.

Vinícius Júnior’s future is also edging closer to resolution. The Brazilian winger has yet to agree terms on a new Real Madrid deal, and Arsenal have been positioned as the likeliest destination if he leaves Spain. An approach for Julian Álvarez remains in the mix, though the club’s primary focus appears to be the wide attacker. Arsenal’s pursuit of Vinícius would add genuine pace and directness to a front line that has lacked consistent width since the departure of Nicolas Pépé.

Manchester United’s £60m left-back gamble and midfield overhaul

Manchester United are preparing a £60m bid for a left-back, with Lewis Hall emerging as the primary target following Eddie Howe’s exit. Hall has rejected a return to Chelsea, clearing the way for United to accelerate negotiations. The Magpies full-back would slot into a reshaped defensive unit, replacing Tyrell Malacia and providing competition for Luke Shaw.

In midfield, United are also targeting a third addition after completing deals for Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. The new arrivals aim to bolster Erik ten Hag’s options ahead of a pivotal season, with the manager under pressure to deliver tangible progress. The window’s final fortnight will determine whether United can bridge the gap to the Champions League places.

Liverpool’s defensive crisis demands urgent signings

Liverpool’s pre-season ended with a sobering 4-2 defeat to Leeds, exposing defensive frailties that must be addressed before the Premier League restarts. Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister missed the tour, and a youthful backline struggled against Leeds’ second-half surge. Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, both new centre-backs, are yet to prove their fitness, while Joe Gomez remains sidelined.

Andoni Iraola has identified four priority areas: a centre-back, a left-back, a right-back and a defensive midfielder. Milos Kerkez is first-choice at left-back, but depth is non-existent after Andy Robertson’s exit. Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola would add attacking impetus, yet the more pressing need is defensive solidity. Iraola must secure at least one experienced centre-back before the window slams shut.

Beyond the headline moves, Tottenham’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen and AC Milan’s rejection of a Rafael Leão loan underscore the volatility of the final stretch. Chelsea’s revised £17m bid for Pep Chavarria reflects the inflated prices still demanded by Spanish clubs, while Fulham’s links to Real Madrid’s Gonzalo García and César Palacios highlight the lower-league scramble for talent.

The next 10 days will decide whether Arsenal land two premium players, whether United gamble on Hall’s development, and whether Liverpool finally shore up their backline. The clubs that act decisively will shape the narrative of the season before a ball is kicked.
