Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal’s Osimhen talks, fourth Man Utd deal close, £171m Liverpool plan off

With the Premier League’s summer transfer window entering its final three weeks, the race to reshape squads is intensifying. Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all locked in last-ditch negotiations as clubs seek to address weaknesses before the deadline. The coming days will determine whether these moves materialise—or whether managers are left staring down a squad list that falls short of their ambitions. The window’s final stretch has already seen several deals collapse, including Arsenal’s pursuit of Julián Álvarez and Liverpool’s inability to land Vinícius Júnior, leaving key positions still unresolved.

Arsenal’s Osimhen pursuit gathers pace as Gunners chase late deals

Arsenal are reportedly discussing Victor Osimhen with Galatasaray, according to Sky Sports’ Paper Talk, as the Nigeria striker remains a priority for Mikel Arteta. The Gunners’ summer has been defined by frustration—missed targets in Vinícius Júnior and Julián Álvarez, and now a £145m price tag from PSG for Bradley Barcola looking prohibitive. With the Community Shield against Manchester City looming, Arteta’s window to strengthen is closing fast. Osimhen’s arrival would address Arsenal’s need for a proven Premier League striker, but Galatasaray are said to be holding firm on price, with the player’s wages and release clause adding further complications.

Amid the Osimhen pursuit, Arsenal are also weighing up defensive options. Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa remains a priority, though Villa’s reluctance to sell has forced the Gunners to explore alternatives. The club’s inability to land a marquee forward has left Arteta’s attack looking thin, especially after the collapse of the Barcola deal. Whether Osimhen’s demands can be met remains the biggest hurdle—Galatasaray’s valuation and the player’s wage expectations could yet scupper the move.

Manchester United edge closer to fourth signing as Carrick’s rebuild takes shape

Michael Carrick’s Manchester United are closing in on a fourth summer signing, with Louis Page the latest target to enter advanced talks. The 18-year-old left-back, who rejected Arsenal to join United, could arrive for around £10m plus add-ons—a fee that reflects his potential rather than current output. United’s left-back crisis has been a recurring issue, and Page’s arrival would at least provide Carrick with a long-term option. The deal, reported by Mirror Football, would see Page become the club’s second teenage signing of the window, following the arrival of Ethan Ennis.

Carrick’s midfield remains a concern. Reports suggest United are still pursuing Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, though an £85m valuation from Selhurst Park has dampened hopes of a swift agreement. Chelsea are also monitoring Wharton, adding another layer of competition. With the window tightening, Carrick’s ability to land a marquee signing—beyond the Page deal—will define whether United can bridge the gap to the Premier League’s top four. The Red Devils’ third-place finish last season masked deeper issues, and their transfer activity suggests they are still a work in progress.

Liverpool’s Barcola pursuit stalls as Iraola’s project faces early scrutiny

Liverpool’s attempt to sign Bradley Barcola has hit a snag, with the Reds unwilling to meet PSG’s £145m asking price. Andoni Iraola’s first competitive game in charge—a trip to Newcastle on August 23—will arrive without the French winger in tow, leaving the new manager to make do with his current options. Reports of a double swoop on Champions League holders Real Madrid—including Ibrahim Mbaye—have also been dismissed as unrealistic for a club still adjusting to Iraola’s high-pressing system.

The early verdict from Liverpool legend John Barnes is damning. Speaking exclusively to Mirror Football, Barnes predicted a transitional season for the Reds, ranking them outside the Premier League’s top two. “I think Arsenal and Man City will be the two favourites,” he said. “Then it’ll be Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, so I think that will be the top five.” Barnes drew parallels with Arteta’s Arsenal, arguing patience would be required even if Liverpool finish third: “Mikel Arteta finished 8th, 8th and 5th before he won the league. So are we going to say, if you finish 3rd or 4th, we’re going to sack the manager because we didn’t finish first?”

Tactical shifts and the window’s final moves

The transfer window’s final fortnight will hinge on clubs’ willingness to compromise. Arsenal’s pursuit of Osimhen is a high-risk gamble—Nigeria’s striker carries a hefty price tag and wage demands, but Arteta’s attack lacks a proven finisher. United, meanwhile, are prioritising defensive solidity, with Page and Wharton representing attempts to shore up Carrick’s backline. Liverpool’s failure to land Barcola exposes the limits of Iraola’s rebuilding project, at least in the short term.

Chelsea, too, remain active, with reports linking them to Wharton and other midfield options. Their involvement in multiple deals underscores the competitive nature of this window, where even mid-table clubs can disrupt the plans of bigger rivals. The coming days will reveal whether these clubs can execute their strategies—or whether they’ll be forced to regroup before the season’s first whistle.

One thing is clear: the next three weeks will shape the Premier League’s hierarchy before a ball is kicked. Whether through Osimhen’s arrival, Wharton’s transfer, or Iraola’s first tactical test, the window’s final moves will echo far beyond August.
