Transfer news LIVE: Lewis-Skelly stance after Man Utd and Chelsea links, Barcola to Liverpool

With the Premier League transfer window now in its final three weeks, the race to reshape squads before the September 1 deadline has intensified. Liverpool have already moved for Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan, but the Reds are not done—Bradley Barcola remains a priority, with Arsenal also circling. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s pursuit of a left-back has crystallised around one name: Lewis Hall. The 21-year-old Newcastle defender is now United’s clear summer target, despite Arsenal offering Myles Lewis-Skelly as an alternative option.

Arsenal’s defensive dilemma and Barcola’s Liverpool pursuit

Arsenal’s defensive reshuffle continues to gather pace. The Gunners have been linked with Barcola, but Liverpool’s interest complicates matters. The Reds have already secured Araujo on loan from Barcelona, yet they remain in the market for a winger to replace Mohamed Salah. Borussia Dortmund’s €55m bid for Said El Mala complicates Liverpool’s plans, while Fabrizio Romano reports that AS Monaco could terminate Paul Pogba’s contract early, potentially freeing the Frenchman to move before the window closes.

Arsenal, meanwhile, face their own defensive questions. Myles Lewis-Skelly, a 19-year-old midfielder-turned-left-back, has been made available by the Gunners as they seek to balance the books following Bruno Guimaraes’ £75m arrival. Lewis-Skelly has been offered to both Manchester United and Chelsea, but the teenager remains keen to stay at Arsenal. The club’s stance suggests they view him as a sellable asset rather than a long-term solution.

Manchester United’s left-back hunt pivots to Hall

Manchester United’s search for a left-back has taken a decisive turn. Despite being offered Lewis-Skelly, United’s priority is now Lewis Hall. The 21-year-old Newcastle defender, under contract until 2029, has emerged as United’s top target to eventually replace Luke Shaw. Newcastle have played down speculation over Hall’s future, but United are undeterred, with reports suggesting they view him as their fourth signing of the summer.

The challenge for United lies in Newcastle’s £60m valuation. United have already rejected bids for Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott, and Elliot Anderson, signalling their reluctance to overpay. Lewis-Skelly remains an option, but United would prefer to pursue Hall, whose long-term potential aligns with their rebuilding project under Michael Carrick.

Chelsea’s defensive overhaul and Arsenal’s transfer balancing act

Chelsea’s defensive crisis has opened the door for Lewis-Skelly. The Blues, linked with the teenager, are in the market for reinforcements after losing key players. Arsenal, meanwhile, are under pressure to generate funds following Guimaraes’ arrival, making Lewis-Skelly a logical candidate for a move. Chelsea’s Lewis-Skelly U-turn highlights the teen’s versatility and the competition for his signature.

Arsenal’s transfer activity reflects their need to balance ambition with financial prudence. The club’s interest in Barcola and other targets must be weighed against their defensive needs and the reality of their squad overhaul. With the window closing, every decision carries weight—whether it’s selling Lewis-Skelly or securing a long-term left-back like Hall.

The coming days will determine whether United land Hall, Liverpool finalise Barcola, or Chelsea secure Lewis-Skelly. One thing is certain: the final three weeks of the transfer window will shape the Premier League’s competitive landscape for the season ahead.
