Transfers LIVE: Liverpool ‘agree’ Barcola terms, Bouaddi to City close – independent.co.uk

Liverpool’s transfer activity has intensified with two high-profile deals edging closer, while the club’s ownership future hangs in the balance after reports emerged of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos nearing a stake purchase. Liverpool are close to agreeing terms with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, and Manchester City are closing in on teenage defender Ousmane Bouaddi. With the Premier League transfer window closing in three weeks, the next fortnight could reshape both Liverpool’s squad and their long-term structure.

Barcola deal nears completion as Liverpool plot summer rebuild

Liverpool have moved a step closer to signing Bradley Barcola, with the French winger’s representatives finalising personal terms with the club. PSG, who retain the player’s registration, have yet to confirm a fee, but sources indicate the Reds are prepared to meet their valuation. The move would complement the recent loan arrival of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, whose season-long deal—with a permanent option—shores up the centre-back position but leaves midfield and wide areas still in need of reinforcement.

Barcola’s form in Ligue 1 last season, where he contributed 11 goals and five assists, has made him a priority target for multiple Premier League clubs. Arsenal, also monitoring the winger’s progress, face an uphill task to derail Liverpool’s pursuit. The Reds’ willingness to meet valuation suggests they view him as a long-term solution rather than a short-term fix, aligning with their broader strategy to refresh the frontline without surrendering control of the transfer budget.

Bouaddi transfer to City inches forward as Liverpool eye defensive depth

Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Ousmane Bouaddi, the 19-year-old defender who has impressed in Ligue 2. Liverpool, who have also scouted the teenager, face stiff competition from Pep Guardiola’s side, who have accelerated their pursuit in recent days. Bouaddi’s versatility—capable of playing at centre-back or right-back—aligns with City’s need for defensive cover following injuries to key personnel last season.

The race for Bouaddi highlights the broader shift in transfer dynamics this summer, where Premier League clubs are increasingly targeting young talent from France’s lower divisions. Liverpool’s recent loan of Araujo demonstrates their preference for experienced options, but the Bouaddi pursuit suggests they are not averse to investing in potential. City’s involvement, however, could force Liverpool to reassess their strategy if the teenager’s price rises beyond their comfort zone.

Ownership uncertainty looms as Bezos edges closer to Liverpool stake

Liverpool’s transfer planning is unfolding against a backdrop of ownership uncertainty after reports that Jeff Bezos is among investors nearing a deal for a stake in the club. The Amazon founder’s potential involvement has sparked debate among supporters, with some welcoming the financial injection and others questioning the long-term implications. Liverpool fans seek clarity on Bezos bid to buy stake amid calls for greater transparency over the proposed deal’s structure and ambitions.

The Bezos speculation follows Liverpool’s recent commercial growth, including expanded sponsorship agreements and global expansion plans. While the club has not commented on the reports, the timing of the potential investment—amid a transfer window where Liverpool are active—raises questions about how a new ownership group might influence recruitment. For now, the Reds continue to operate independently, but the Bezos link adds another layer of intrigue to their summer narrative.

With Barcola’s arrival imminent and Bouaddi’s future finely balanced, Liverpool are at a pivotal moment. The next two weeks will determine whether they can secure the players they need to mount a title challenge while navigating the complexities of a potential ownership change. The window remains open, but the clock is ticking.
