Tzolis, Dowman start again for Arsenal vs Real Betis LIVE!

Arsenal’s pre-season campaign in Dublin took another turn on Wednesday night as Tzolis and Dowman started again against Real Betis, with the Gunners’ transfer focus squarely on Bruno Guimarães. The friendly at the Aviva Stadium concluded in the 90th minute, but the bigger story was the club’s progress toward finalising terms with Newcastle’s captain. With every passing hour, the contours of Arsenal’s summer reshaping themselves, the on-field action merely a backdrop to the business being conducted behind the scenes.

Arsenal’s starting XI underlines Guimarães anticipation

Mikel Arteta sent out a largely experimental side, but the inclusion of Tzolis and Dowman—both handed starts for the second successive outing—sent a clear signal about their futures. The Greek forward, who has featured prominently in pre-season, continued to stake his claim for minutes, while Dowman’s presence in defence reflected Arteta’s need to blood young talent. The match itself, a friendly against a Spanish side, mattered less than the message sent by the personnel choices. With Bruno’s arrival imminent, every competitive minute counts for those fighting to secure a place in the first team.

Arteta’s willingness to rotate and experiment has been a hallmark of pre-season, yet the backdrop of a potential £100m-plus midfield signing sharpens every decision. The manager’s squad-building philosophy now faces its sternest test: integrating a world-class talent while maintaining harmony and competition across the dressing room. Tzolis and Dowman, along with the rest of the fringe players, are acutely aware that their opportunities hinge on proving they can thrive under Arteta’s evolving system.

Guimarães transfer inches closer as Newcastle capitulate

The Mirror’s transfer live blog confirmed Newcastle United have finally relented over Bruno Guimarães, with Arsenal set to finalise terms this summer. The Magpies’ capitulation follows months of protracted negotiations, their resolve broken by Arsenal’s willingness to meet every financial and structural demand. Newcastle’s change of heart caps a dramatic shift in power dynamics, one that underscores Arsenal’s financial ascendancy and Newcastle’s pragmatic retreat from a once-unwinnable stalemate.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Bruno has been relentless, their offer now accepted after Newcastle’s initial resistance crumbled. The Gunners’ hierarchy moved swiftly once the Magpies blinked, demonstrating both financial muscle and operational efficiency. Bruno’s arrival would represent a seismic shift in Arteta’s midfield, providing steel, leadership, and technical refinement at a stroke. The club’s ability to close the deal—amid competition from Saudi clubs and European rivals—marks a defining moment in their summer rebuild.

For Bruno, the move represents a chance to rejoin a project that aligns with his ambitions. His leadership qualities, coupled with his ability to dictate tempo, would address Arsenal’s long-standing need for a midfield general. The Gunners’ willingness to pay a premium fee reflects their desperation to secure a player of his calibre, and Bruno’s impending arrival signals a new phase in Arteta’s evolution.

Vinícius Jr and Barcola: the next dominoes to fall?

While Bruno’s transfer edges toward completion, Arsenal remain locked in talks over Vinícius Jr, with Real Madrid reportedly raising their contract offer to keep the Brazilian at the Santiago Bernabéu. The 23-year-old now faces a pivotal choice: extend his stay at a club where he is adored but increasingly unsettled, or pursue a move to a Premier League outfit in need of flair and creativity. Arsenal’s interest is no secret, and their willingness to meet Madrid’s valuation could force a resolution in the coming weeks.

Across the north-west, Liverpool continue their pursuit of PSG’s Bradley Barcola, with French reports suggesting they have lodged a formal bid. The Reds’ interest in the French forward highlights their determination to bolster their attacking options, while Arsenal’s dual focus on Bruno and Vinícius underscores their ambition to assemble a squad capable of challenging for multiple trophies. The window’s tempo is accelerating, and the next 72 hours could redefine the Premier League’s transfer landscape.

Arsenal’s pre-season fixture in Dublin served as a reminder of football’s dual rhythms: the grind of competitive football and the high-stakes theatre of the transfer market. With Bruno’s signature imminent and Vinícius’s future hanging in the balance, Arteta’s squad is on the cusp of transformation. The on-field action may have been secondary, but the stakes could not have been higher.

As the dust settles on another pre-season outing, Arsenal’s hierarchy will turn their full attention to the final pieces of the jigsaw. Bruno’s arrival would mark a statement of intent, but the work to integrate him—and keep Vinícius onside—has only just begun. The next chapter of Arsenal’s rebuild is about to unfold, and the Premier League will be watching.
